Research Interest

I collaborate as an anatomist on various clinical research projects such as canine vascular anatomy, ovine and equine pharyngeal and laryngeal anatomy, including surgical approaches and techniques, as well as canine sports medicine and lameness rehabilitation techniques. I also serve on the AAVMC Task Force for Animal Use in Education, where we have published Guidelines for the Use of Animals in Veterinary Education and a subsequent AAVMC Use of Animals In Veterinary Education Handbook (where I was one of 3 editors and I co-authored one of the chapters). Previously, I assisted with the enhancement and development of virtual anatomy software, including both image and video production as well as the creation and editing of anatomical text. I currently research alternative models and techniques for veterinary education, including their effectiveness for use.

Teaching Interest

I teach small animal, large animal, and exotic animal anatomy, with particular interest in clinical comparative anatomy and clinical skills application. I also assist in providing orientation programming for entering first year DVM students and DVM students transitioning to clinical rotations. I participate in clinical skills teaching, problem-based learning, communication skills training, and provide leadership and ethics content in various courses in the DVM program.
