Getting Involved
Whether you want to build robots, network with top industry professionals, or simply make new friends, there are tons of ways to get involved at LSU! In addition to the student groups and events highlighted below, LSU has over 500 student organizations on campus and dozens of opportunities to get involved. Students can also get involved in engineering-specific organizations like the Louisiana Engineering Society, Engineers Without Borders, Engineering Diversity Ambassadors. In addition, many incoming freshmen may also be interested in studying abroad or attending summer camps.
Women in Computer Science (WICS)
WICS focuses on providing a space for women studying computer science to find support and encouragement and hosting educational and social events like technological workshops and panels.
ACM@LSU
ACM@LSU is a local chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM). ACM@LSU advocates for computer science and the students who study it. The organization holds community meetings every few weeks to let students study together and form connections. It also invites technology companies to present information about their firms and connect with students.
Bengal Reauxbotics
Based on the popular FIRST Robotics Competition, Bengal Reauxbotics unites students interested in robots and robotics and expands their interests through the opportunity to build and compete in robotics competitions while learning leadership and teamwork skills.
Chillennium
This past year, 14 LSU students attended Chillennium Game Jam at Texas A&M, the world’s largest student game jam featuring teams from Canada and the US. Students participated in a 48-hour competition to create an original video game.
Grace Hopper Celebration
Each year, several students from LSU attend Grace Hopper Celebration, the largest tech conference for women in the world. Students are able to network and interview with various companies and attend talks and workshops hosted by women working in computer science and related fields.
