February 28, 2024
On Wednesday, Feb. 28, LSU welcomed Geraldine (Geri) Richmond, the Under Secretary for Science and Innovation at the Department of Energy, to campus, where she visited with President William F. Tate IV and toured LSU facilities and labs devoted to energy studies.
Richmond's tour included stops at the LSU Center for River Studies and the LSU Petroleum Engineering Research, Training & Testing Lab, two facilities that showcase LSU's expansive energy research, innovation and practice.
"We at the Department of Energy do see Louisiana as a very important state in this energy evolution," Richmond said.
The visit comes a month after an LSU-led team won the largest grant ever awarded by the National Science Foundation to transform energy in alignment with LSU's Scholarship First Agenda.
The NSF Engines grant will support Louisiana’s energy industry, create more jobs in the energy sector, develop innovative solutions to energy challenges, and help train the world’s energy workforce.
