Emily Wei
Emily Wei is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology and Geophysics since 2024. Using geophysical data (bathymetry and chirp subbottom profiles) and sediment cores, she studies how depositional and erosional processes have shaped underwater deposits over recent timescales (years to thousands of years). The morphology of deposits can shed light on sediment routing from distributaries to the shelf and deep sea. She has studied environments on passive and active margins ranging from barrier islands, to submarine delta fronts, and the continental slope. Currently, her research is focused on studying the geomorphology offshore of the eastern Bird's Foot of the Mississippi River Delta and the Mississippi River Delta Front.
