Spring Fling Pre-Sale Teaser
Featuring Heather Frazier Blanchard
Sunday, March 30, 2-3:30 pm, LSU Hilltop Arboretum
This year’s Teaser program will feature Heather Frazier Blanchard, a member of Wild Ones Greater Baton Rouge, and a passionate advocate for native habitat gardens. Heather will share her philosophy and approach to native gardening, introduce us to her top 25 native plants, and share ways to collect some of the harder to find plants.
Founder of “Heather’s Habitat”, a Facebook page that shares information and photographs
on growing and nurturing native plants in her own yard in Plaquemine, Blanchard encourages
others to post and share their experiences. In 2024, Heather attained a “Gold” certification
for her Louisiana Habitat with 79 species of native plants in an effort that began
in earnest back in 2015. Blanchard will share her tips for native plantings for newbies
and seasoned gardeners and provide snippets of information gleaned from her 25 years
of experience and varied research.
“I’ve removed, planted, removed and planted better selected plants, more times than I can count,” she said. She’ll explain how her journey as a gardener has transitioned from one that does yard work to one that strives to build habitats using native plants and she hopes to encourage you to do the same.
Following the program, enter a ticket to win a featured plant, then join us for a post-program tour of the Hodge Podge Nursery to view the plants available at the sale. Don’t miss opportunity to determine which plants from Spring Fling you’d like to introduce to your yard!
Registration is $20 for students and members of the Friends of Hilltop and $25 for the public.
